Subtracting a positive and adding a negative number are completely different operations. True False

OpenStudy (anonymous):

huh?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I have no idea thats the question. Im very confused @Leong

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you try to get the results positive or negative?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I dont know its a true or false @Leong

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay, let's make some example. they said is completely different actions in solving :) what do you think?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

false!???? @Leong

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well, depending on what are we talking about, algebra or ARITHMETIC

OpenStudy (anonymous):

algerbra

OpenStudy (anonymous):

then it possible to have a negative number :) like how do you get -6 into 6? you plus 12 right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well, depending on which way you want the results to be, negative or positive, its not actually different, well, reads these might give you more info. http://www.mathsisfun.com/positive-negative-integers.html http://www.themathpage.com/alg/signed-numbers.htm but to me, there is no different in add or subtract those :) the only different we have is the results it give us :)

OpenStudy (zzr0ck3r):

This is a bad question. Subtracting is not an operation Really we are adding the additive inverse of a number, so now we are adding the additive inverse of an additive inverse. \(a-(-b)=a+(-(-b))\). The one on the left is just an abuse in notation.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

true @zzr0ck3r

OpenStudy (zzr0ck3r):

I should be very clear and say that subtraction is not an operation on the real numbers as a field because subtraction is not associative. But that was boring. . .
