a graduated cylinder containing 242.0 ml of water weighs 950.0 grams. when a silver sphere is placed in the graduated cylinder the water level rose to 260.0ml the entire system the cylinder, water and silver now weighs 1144.3 g. calculate the density of silver

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Do you know the formula for density?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes thats the d=m/v right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Correct. So what is the mass of the silver sphere? And what is the volume of the silver sphere?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

would I take 1144.3 *260.5 to find the density of the silver?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i meant divide

OpenStudy (aaronq):

260 mL is not the volume of the piece of silver - the difference in the change from the volume before the object was placed in the water (242 mL) and the final volume (260 mL) is the volume of the object
