Question

Algebra 2 Question. I have an answer and why I think it is that answer, but need further explanation. I think it is f(x-1) because it is moving to the left one spot, which means it is going towards the negatives. x is in the parentheses because it stands for any number. Ex. It could be 5 - 1 making it positive 4.

I don't know how to explain this, but I'll try lol.

left or right means you're changing the units in the x-axis, which is in the parenthesis. left means + (positive), and right means - (negative)

up or down means you're changing the unit in the y-axis. This is the number outside the parenthesis. up means + and down means -.

eg. if f(x) is shifted two units to the right, it would be f(x-2).
if f(x) is shifted two units to the left, it would be f(x+2)
if f(x) is shifted two units down, it would be f(x)-2
if f(x) is shifted two units up, it would be f(x)+2

well done mathway - I've been doing math for many years and still find it difficult to explain
the 'to the' left' and 'to the right thing'
