Roman genre scenes generally depict Romans at leisure and include gambling, music and sexual encounters.Some scenes depict gods and goddesses at leisure.

First Style(Masonry style): (c.200-80 BCE) it represented the cultural aspirations of a mobile middle class.

Second style: (c.80 BCE - 100 CE) which were illusions basically of windows and painted architecture.

Third Style (Mannerism): Began at the end of the 1st century B.C. (c.100-200) walls (murals) were painted to create a picture gallery.

Fourth Style (Baroque): 62 AD to 2nd cent. A.D. (c.200-400) they appear to almost look portable.

Roman murals generally were created as frescoes (painting on fresh plaster). They were used to open up living space. Many surviving paintings were representations of villas, porticoes and landscape gardens, woods, groves, hills, pools, channels, rivers, and coastlines

Ancient Rome Murals were primarily medium frescoes. These were paintings on wet plaster (ie fresh plaster on the wall). They started off representing architecture. Some were dark and some were almost made to appear as illusions. The fourth style that @sayhey2012 mentioned also seemed to be as if they could take the mural off the wall and move it. They were definitely used to bring life to their homes.
