OpenStudy (shelby1290):

Evaluate f(3) for each of the following: a) {(1,2), (2,0), (3,1), (4,2)} b) {(1,2), (2,3), (3,4), (4,5)} c) {(1,3), (2,5), (3,2), (4,0)}

Nnesha (nnesha):

evaluate what ?

OpenStudy (shelby1290):

@Nnesha I'm supposed to get an answer. At the back of my textbook the answers are: a) 1 b)4 c) 2

OpenStudy (shelby1290):

I just don't understand how they came to be and I must show my work.

OpenStudy (bee_see):

here, look at the x values that are 3. The Y values are 1,4, and 2

OpenStudy (shelby1290):

ohhhhhhhhhhhhh I see. That makes sense!

OpenStudy (bee_see):

You normally have f(x),right? In this case, they replaced the x with 3. x=3.

OpenStudy (shelby1290):

@Bee_see Mhm i get it. Wow that was pretty simple. Do you have time for another one? It's still related to notations but a bit more complicated....

OpenStudy (bee_see):

OK. Let's see it.

OpenStudy (shelby1290):

Determine f(-2), f(0), f(2) and f(2x) for each function. a) f(x) = -3x^2 + 5 b) f(x) = 4x^2 -2x + 1

OpenStudy (shelby1290):

Do i just plug them in for x

OpenStudy (bee_see):

Yes!
