using the probabilty distribution table what is the value of p(x=4 or x=1)? x 0 1 2 3 4 5 p 0.3 00.5 0.1 0.15 0.15 0.25 p(x=4 or x=1)=1

OpenStudy (steve816):

0.5+0.15

OpenStudy (amistre64):

the probability of a given random variable, is: x p(x)

OpenStudy (amistre64):

but then, it seems like your table is a little off ... since the sum of: x P(x) is not 1, but 3.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

wait so it 0.65 the answer or

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[\begin{array}{c|cccccc} x&0&1&2&3&4&5&\\ \hline p(x)&0.3&\color{red}{0.05}&0.1&0.15&0.15&0.25 \end{array}\] @amistre64 For any probability distribution, we have to have \(\sum\limits_{x}p(x)=1\), not the sum of \(xp(x)\) (you're thinking of expected value, which need not be 1). And yeah, it's 0.65.
