OpenStudy (kaylaprincess):

how do i factor this?

OpenStudy (kaylaprincess):

\[2x^2 + 7x + 3\]

OpenStudy (kaylaprincess):

i might know... multiply 2 • 3 = 6 split some way, 6 • 1 ?

OpenStudy (kaylaprincess):

6 + 1 = 7 ?

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

\(\large\color{black}{ 2x^2+7x+3 }\) \(\large\color{black}{ 2x^2+3x+x+3 }\) \(\large\color{black}{ 2x(x+3)+1(x+3) }\)

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

and then the very last step.

OpenStudy (kaylaprincess):

why did you add x? into the equation? ( second line in first post )

OpenStudy (kaylaprincess):

@SolomonZelman I'm still confused...

OpenStudy (kaylaprincess):

someone?

OpenStudy (mathmate):

starting from your post: ``` 6 + 1 = 7 ``` 2x2+7x+3 becones \(2x^2+6x ~~+x+3\) which can be written as \(2x(x+3) ~~+1(x+3)\) So factor out the common factor (x+3) gives \((x+3)(2x+1) \)

OpenStudy (kaylaprincess):

thank you

OpenStudy (mathmate):

you're welcome! :)
