Examine this political cartoon published by Dr. Seuss on August 13, 1941. What is he trying to say about the war? Remember that at this time the United States had not yet entered the war as Pearl Harbor was not attacked until December 7, 1941. Take note of the man in the middle who is holding lollipops; his shirt reads "The Appeaser." What is an appeaser? What is the message Dr. Seuss is attempting to convey?

Appeasement was the policy employed by England before the invasion of Poland, and America before Pearl Harbour, and consisted of attempting to negotiate peace with Germany.
Dr Seuss wanted to say that this policy didn't work, because the sea monsters (see the swastikas) would always come back for more, and eventually they'd be forced into war.

Think about it. Hitler was nuts, but he wasn't a stupid nut. If England and 'Murica kept feeding him cash, he'd just take it until he had enough to beat everyone. You keep giving him more and he's only going to be stronger
On the other hand, the War arguably killed more people than Hitler did on his own. It's all subjective, and you don't want to fight more than you have too.
