HELP!!!!!!! how do scientists share their ideas and why do you think it is important that they published their work instead of keeping it a secret for the development of the atomic structure theory.
The way scientists express and share their ideas can be through science communities, science events, science conferences, writing and publishing books, and even sharing their ideas with other scientists. The importance of showing the world the atomic structure theory (basically the theory of the structure of atoms) was to influence more discovery. If the man who first discovered the existence of atoms kept his theory on that a secret, the atomic theory would never be the same today. So, therefore, when scientists don't keep their work a secret, the world can benefit from great leaps in scientific discovery.
If you need me to explain further, don't hesitate to ask.
ok Thanks for helping I really appreciate your help.|dw:1442685376599:dw|
You're very welcome.
if you dont mind I have another question.
I don't mind.
Describe Dalton's atomic theory and how the work of JJ. thomson, rutherford and bohr contributed to the development of the theory of atomic structure. explain how Geiger & Marsden's experiments gave evidence for a nuclear atom (an atom with a nucleus). How would the scientists have communicated with each other, and why is it important fro scientists to communicate their ideas?
Dalton's atomic theory had four main points that are still valid to this day. 1.) All matter is made of atoms. 2.) All atoms of a given element are identical in mass and properties (quoted from iun.edu) 3.) Compounds are formed by two or more (different) kinds of atoms 4.) A chemical reaction is a rearrangement of atoms. (again, quoting iun.edu) I'll type up the rest in a second.
JJ Thompson discovered the electron in 1897. He proved that the atom is made of of smaller pieces, even though Dalton thought atoms were completely solid and couldn't be broken down into anything. Ernest Rutherford used experimental evidence to show that an atom must contain a central nucleus in 1911. This, along with the discovery of electrons, further proved atoms to be made up of smaller particles. Niels Bohr developed Rutherford's nuclear atom model even further. He, as well, used experimental evidence to assist the idea of electrons occupying particular orbits or "shells" around the nucleus of an atom.
Now, for the last part of your question. Sorry for the wait.
It is important for scientists to communicate their ideas so they can further develop each-others' theories. If Dalton, Thompson, Rutherford and Bohr's ideas have never been communicated, even if it wasn't with direct contact, the atomic structure theory would have never been developed this far.
In fact, we may not even know that atoms exist if Dalton never revealed his theory. And if Thompson never revealed his theory of electrons, we may have never found out about atoms being made of smaller particles.
Hope this was helpful.
