Please help , I will fan and medal!

OpenStudy (cail):

9 3/5 divided by 2 1/5

OpenStudy (abdullahm):

First make it into an improper fraction.

OpenStudy (cail):

A. 5 1/10 b. 4 2/5 c. 5 2/11 d. 4 4/11

OpenStudy (cail):

How do I do that ?

OpenStudy (abdullahm):

\(\bf\large a\frac {b}{c}=\frac {(a\times c)+b}{c}\)

OpenStudy (cail):

Would that be possible if you just gave me the answer ? I suck at this :/

OpenStudy (mrnood):

You will suck at this until you try to do the work yourself

OpenStudy (cail):

I did try

OpenStudy (mrnood):

1/5 means one FIFTH how many 'fifths' are there in 1?

OpenStudy (cail):

It's either b or d right ?

OpenStudy (abdullahm):

If you choose an answer, make sure to provide work so that way if you make a mistake we can catch it :)

OpenStudy (mrnood):

how many 'fifths' are there in 1 when you answer that then you can work out how many 'fifths' are there in 9?

OpenStudy (kalynne):

make it into an improper fraction.

OpenStudy (cail):

One ?

OpenStudy (abdullahm):

No...

OpenStudy (cail):

5 ?

OpenStudy (mrnood):

if you divide something into five parts (i.e. into 'fifths') how many oyu got? YES its five so in NINE things - each divided into 5 parts how many parts you got?

OpenStudy (abdullahm):

Ok, if you have a pie and you cut it up into 5 pieces, how many pieces are there in one pie?

OpenStudy (cail):

5

OpenStudy (abdullahm):

Then how many total pieces in 9 pies?

OpenStudy (cail):

0.5

OpenStudy (cail):

Wait hold on

OpenStudy (cail):

45 ?

OpenStudy (abdullahm):

Yes

OpenStudy (abdullahm):

And so 45 pieces in 9 pies, then how many in 9 3/5 Hint 45 + 3 = ?

OpenStudy (cail):

48

OpenStudy (abdullahm):

So... 48/5 is the improper fraction for 9 3/5

OpenStudy (abdullahm):

So now, can you find the improper fraction for 2 1/5

OpenStudy (cail):

And 11/5 for the other one ?

OpenStudy (abdullahm):

Correct!

OpenStudy (cail):

Okay thanks what do I do next ?

OpenStudy (abdullahm):

So now the formula for dividing fractions \(\large\bf\frac {a}{b}\div \frac {c}{d} = \frac {a}{b}\times \frac {d}{c} =\frac {ad}{bc}\)

OpenStudy (cail):

I don't understand

OpenStudy (cail):

Is it b ?

OpenStudy (abdullahm):

Just replace the variables with your numbers :) A can be replaced by 48 B can be replaced by 5 C is replaced by 11 And d is replaced by 5

OpenStudy (abdullahm):

Don't forget to simplify the fractions before you multiply them.

OpenStudy (cail):

48/5 divided by 11/5 = 48/5 x 5/11 = ?

OpenStudy (abdullahm):

Correct, amd you can simplify the fractions by dividing the 5 from the numerator and the denominator.

OpenStudy (abdullahm):

And*

OpenStudy (cail):

I'm on my phone , so I still don't quite understand because when I did this it equally to 4.36

OpenStudy (cail):

Equaled *

OpenStudy (cail):

Actually I just checked right now and it said 0.72

OpenStudy (abdullahm):

48/5 x 5/11 = 48/11

OpenStudy (cail):

Is it d ?

OpenStudy (abdullahm):

Make 48/11 into a mixed fraction.

OpenStudy (abdullahm):

Yes.

OpenStudy (cail):

Okay I did so it is d. Thanks so much !!:)

OpenStudy (abdullahm):

Anytime :)
