Subtract. – 0.41 – 8.91 A. –9.32 B. –8.50 C. 8.50 D. 9.32

@Hero

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

when adding/subtracting with signs....if the signs are the same, add them and use the same sign. If the signs are different, subtract them and use the sign of the bigger number.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i think D or A mostly D

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

think about it....the signs are the same....so they are to be added and you would use the same sign....so it would be - 9.32....understand ?

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

It can get a little confusing because adding/subtracting with signs has a whole different set of rules then multiplying/dividing with signs

OpenStudy (anonymous):

wait i was wrong it was A

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

it is A....signs are the same...so you add and keep the same sign

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh ok i have 2 more plz help

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

what ya got ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Evaluate d – 7.5 when d = –3.82. A. –11.32 B. –3.68 C. 3.68 D. 11.32

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

ok....after subbing your problem becomes : -3.82 - 7.5.....look familiar....signs are the same....so add and keep the same sign

OpenStudy (anonymous):

-11.32 i was thinking that

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

you got it :)

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

got another one ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Evaluate m – n when m = –1.5 and n = –7.7. A. –9.2 B. –6.2 C. 6.2 D. 9.2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

A?

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

ok...after subbing your problem becomes : -1.5 - (-7.7).....little different here...we have to distribute the negative through the parenthesis changing the problem to : -1.5 + 7.7.....so the signs are different. So you subtract (7.7 - 1.5) and use the sign of the bigger number.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

C the bigger number is positive

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i might have done something wrong

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

correct :)

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

because the -7.7 became + 7.7 making the sign positive

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yay i got a 100 and now i under stand this =)

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

good to hear....but like I said, these rules are different from the rules that apply to multiplying/dividing with signs. Try not to get them mixed up

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you are the best :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

see ya thanks

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

lol....I don't know about that...but thank you :)
