Pentagon ABCDE and pentagon A'B'C'D'E' are shown on the coordinate plane below. Which two transformations are applied to pentagon ABCDE to create A'B'C'D'E'?
A) translated according to the rule (x, y) → (x + 8, y + 2) and reflected across the y-axis B) translated according to the rule (x, y) → (x + 2, Cy + 8) and reflected across the x-axis C) translated according to the rule (x, y) → (x + 2, y + 8) and reflected across the y-axis D) translated according to the rule (x, y) → (x + 8, y + 2) and reflected across the x-axis
is the answer C? i am not sure why, but i would like help on this :( and an explanation
@Hero @campbell_st @Loser66 @dan815 @Kainui
can any of you guys please assist me?
@whpalmer4 @zzr0ck3r
pick the point A how far right do it move to get to A'..? then how far up did A move to get to A'?
8 to the right and 8 up ?
its all adding in the options :(
opps miss read the order... moving A 2 right and up 8 puts it at (-3, 6) then reflecting across the y-axis will put it in the correct position A'(3, 6)
do your choice of C seems correct
let me check
no because it gives me (-3,6)
@campbell_st
well if you move 1st... that's the order, then reflect in the y-axis C is the correct answer
when you reflect, the point has to be the same perpendicular distance from the line of reflection.
so basically the subtraction sign is the opposite when i reflect it over the y axis?
@campbell_st
well my mistake is I didn't read the order of the 2 step transformation. Step 1. translate ... move of slide to a new position. Step 2 reflect... flip across a line... so be moving 2 right and up 8 you can slide the polygon into a position so it can be reflected into its new position.
sorry to confuse ou as you had identified the correct answer... before I started
oh, lol its okay an thank you for the help :) @campbell_st
