WILL MEDAL AND FAN TO YOU Solve for x: 4 − (x + 2) < −3(x + 4) (1 point) x > −9 x < −9 x > −7 x < −7

OpenStudy (firekat97):

Firstly, try using FOIL to open up the brackets and collect like terms

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@FireKat97 what is FOIL

OpenStudy (firekat97):

okay so FOIL is a method with which you can open and simplify brackets so assume... a (b + c) so to simplify this you would do (a)(b) + (a)(c)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so 4-x + 4 - 2 < -3•x +-3•4 @FireKat97

OpenStudy (firekat97):

your right hand side is correct however your left hand side isn't quite there, so when you have 4 - (x + 2) think of it like this 4 -1(x + 2) so what you are actually doing is 4 -(1)(x) + (-1)(2)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh ok

OpenStudy (anonymous):

whats next @FireKat97

OpenStudy (anonymous):

simplify?

OpenStudy (firekat97):

yup and collect like terms

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok so you get -2 + x < -3 • x + -12? @FireKat97

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@FireKat97 you there?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i think you simplify by getting common terms together ....the greater or less than symbol is like a equal sign so simplify

OpenStudy (firekat97):

Your right hand side is correct however, reconsider your signs for the left hand side

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is this algebra 1 ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

-2 - x < -3 • x + -12?

OpenStudy (firekat97):

the two is meant to be positive, but other than that its all correct

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok
