How do you use unit rates in the real world?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@texaschic101

OpenStudy (bishoppatton):

There are plenty of these scenarios. For example, when you go to Costco, there is often a unit rate for the cost. Ex: amount of cost / amount of product. Also, miles per gallon is another real life unit rate.

thats from google

OpenStudy (anonymous):

can you give me when of your own example

oregonduck (oregonduck):

sure i can, i go to bj's and i see that a bag of beans is 7.44 for a 3 pound bag and at the bottom of the sign it says $2.48 per pound. so the unit rate is $2.48 per pound of beans.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is that correct? @BishopPatton

Can you find the constant proportionality when given a certain situation?

OpenStudy (bishoppatton):

A rate is a ratio that compares quantities in different units. Rates are commonly found in everyday life. The prices in grocery stores and department stores are rates. Rates are also used in pricing gasoline, tickets to a movie or sporting event, in paying hourly wages and monthly fees. A unit rate is a rate where the second quantity is one unit, such as $34 per pound, 25 miles per hour.

OpenStudy (bishoppatton):

there is another example.
