The weight of an object depends on its _?_. Question 4 options: A) mass and the local strength of gravity B) viscosity and its tensile strength C) inertia and its velocity D) density and its volume

OpenStudy (abhisar):

Weight is basically the force of gravity acting on any body. For instance if I say my mass is 65 kg then my weight will be the force which earth exerts on me. Magnitude of this force is given by \(\sf \boxed{F=mass \times acceleration~due~to~gravity}\) So my weight will be 65 x 9.8 \(\sf \approx 650 ~Newtons\) Now this acceleration due to gravity whose value on the surface of earth is nearly 9.8 varies from place to place and is dependent on the strength of gravitational force. For instance if you cruise to moon where the value of this g force is much lower, you will find that your weight has reduced. So weigh basically depends upon both your mass and the strength of local gravitational force. Note: In day to day life people say that my weight is 50 `Kilogram`. That's not true, what the are referring to is their mass. Unit of weight is `Newtons`. So don't get confused.
