OpenStudy (adamk):

How do I calculate the appropriate markings for the two axes on a graph? I forgot. I know it involves the number of lines on each axis. And dividing something.

OpenStudy (math&ing001):

Depends on which graph you're making.

OpenStudy (adamk):

@math&ing001 Just a line graph. Position-time graph. I'm given 6 data points for each axis and on the x-axis is 30 lines and the y axis has 40.

OpenStudy (math&ing001):

Are the data points equally distributed ?

OpenStudy (math&ing001):

Meaning do they have the same distance between them.

OpenStudy (math&ing001):

Assuming they do, I'll divide 30 by 6,|dw:1443374486009:dw| that'll be a unit for each 5 lines:

OpenStudy (adamk):

@math&ing001 No all the data points are not equally distributed. The x-axis points are 0.0, 1.0, 2.4, 3.6, 4.9, 6.2.

OpenStudy (math&ing001):

Do you have to stick to 30 or can you add 1 or 2 more lines

OpenStudy (adamk):

I have to stick to 30

OpenStudy (math&ing001):

Ok then take the highest data point you have (6.2), and round it to the nearest divisor of 30.Next highest divisor here would be 10. We divide 30 by 10 to get the unit.

OpenStudy (adamk):

? I'm thinking it's in increments of .2 But that would mean I'd need one extra line.
