OpenStudy (whpalmer4):

Like terms are terms which have the same exponent and variable. For example: \[x^2 + x^3\]no like terms \[xy + xy^2\]no like terms \[xy + 3xy + y^2\]\(xy\) and \(3xy\) are like terms

What is the Answer then? ;/ c?

OpenStudy (whpalmer4):

Let's look at them: a) \(2y^3,\ -4y^2,\ y^3 \) Same variable \(y\), but not all the same exponent b) \(4y^2, \ y\) Again, same variable, but not all the same exponent. Remember, if there is no exponent, it is equivalent to an exponent of \(1\): \(y = y^1\) c) \( 2y^3, \ y^3\) here we have both the same variable and the same exponent. These two terms are like terms.
