A religious heretic was known as a Catholic priest charged with converting others to Catholicism. a person who tried to convert others to his or her religion. an organization that punished those who did not follow Catholicism. a person who held beliefs going against the teachings of a church. im struggling with the question. i googled the definition but its not making much sense at all. @Khirro

In context, "heretic" is usually applied within a religious sense. I believe since we're dealing with the Roman Empire and the Church and since "heretic" is usually defined as someone who values their beliefs over society and laws, that they were going against the beliefs of the Church.
