Identify the like terms in the following expression: 14y2+14y−2y−4. A. 14y, 4 B. 14y2, 14y, -2y C. 14y, 2y, 4 D. 14y, -2y

pooja195 (pooja195):

Like terms are the terms with the same varible attatched to it

pooja195 (pooja195):

Look the the letters behind those numbers which have the same one?

pooja195 (pooja195):

Not quite

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no because in C there is 12y 2y and 4... no y

pooja195 (pooja195):

The 4 does not have a y attached to it so they are no like terms

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh. so its b

pooja195 (pooja195):

Well its y^2 its not just y

OpenStudy (anonymous):

not quite. its tricky because they put a y^2 which is not the same as just y

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

no.... it has to have exactly the same variables Like terms : 4y,3y,-5y Unlike terms : 4y^2, 2y, 3

pooja195 (pooja195):

Here is an example |dw:1444057091664:dw|

pooja195 (pooja195):

Have you figured it out?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

there is only one left that you havent chosen with matching variables. variables are the letter like Y or X if there is a number AFTER the variable it is not the same.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

does 14y and 4 have the same variable?
