Yes, 3 appears in both sets but in the union, only one 3 would be included.

Write it as the following: {-1,0,1,2,3} U {3,4,5,6}

--> Choose something different. Just be sure all the numbers are in one or both of the two sets which will be "unionized."

You first have to know what the union of two set is, the definition.

The union of two sets A and B is the set of elements which are in A, in B, or in both A and B. In symbols, . For example, if A = {1, 3, 5, 7} and B = {1, 2, 4, 6} then A ∪ B = {1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7}.

When you take the union, you have to get what is given as the union set in the problem.

Bad answer alert. I had to take the 5 out of set A because set B had a 5 in it and the intersection would have contained a 5 which is not allowed in the problem.

The null set is the empty set. Two sets with no common elements would have an intersection that is the null set.

For example, A = { 1, 2} and B = { 7, 8}

A n B = { } which is how I write the empty set because { } is a set with no element.
