Inequality help! Will fan and medal! Write and inequality for the graph. http://prntscr.com/8ou82c

OpenStudy (jhulian):

A

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Do you have an explanation as to why it's A? JW

OpenStudy (jhulian):

After you get you equation, try pluging in various values of Y and X to confirm your answer

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay. I'll try some.

OpenStudy (jhulian):

Or more precisely it has a closed domain

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I still don't understand lol

OpenStudy (jhulian):

Okay...i will explain in a minute

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay, thanks.

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

From the graph I see this: y-intercept is 5 slope is (5 - 0/(0 - (-6)) = 5/6 shaded area is under the line line is solid From the slope and y-intercept, the equation of the line is (slope-intercept form) y = (5/6)x + 5 From the shading under the line, the inequality must have a < or <= (in the slope-intercept form.). Because of the solid line, the inequality sign is <=. That means this inequality: y <= (5/6)x + 5 Now subtract the x-term from both sides: -(5/6)x + y <=5 Multiply both sides by 6: -5x + 6y <= 30 Multiply both sides -1 (notice the inequality sign changes direction): 5x - 6y >= -30

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So D's the answer, then?

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

Yes.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thanks!

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

You're welcome.

OpenStudy (jhulian):

Thanks @mathstudent55 ..

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

@Jhulian You're welcome.
