hm... this is a toughie but we can use process of elimination here if both are negative numbers, then it's possible that the product is rational, since we could just set p = -1 and q = -1
if both are irrational, then it's possible they could both be the same irrational number, thus cancelling out, so B isn't the answer either
now, between C and D, I would go with D, since if q is 0 there is no solution
