OpenStudy (stuck-help):

what does a good definition mean for geometry?

OpenStudy (stuck-help):

im asking how to determine a statement is a good definition

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It means you can switch the hypothesis and the conclusion and it will be correct both ways. Really, a good definition is always a biconditional.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

A good geometry definition will classify, quantify, and not have a counterexample. Once a term is defined, it can be used in future definitions. For Ex: Once parallel lines are defined, they can be used in the definition of a parallelogram

@tracyplays Good point! It is also a good definition if it does not have a counterexample.

Stuck-help In your example, "a newspaper has articles you read" The counterexample would be: You can read an article in a book or other source. A good definition would be completely true, with an "if an only if."
