What is the range of the function y = x 2 ? 1) all real numbers 2) x ≥ 0 3) y ≥ 0

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

\(x^2\) is not going to be negative. The least \(x^2\) can be equivalent to is 0 (when x=0).

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

And as \(x\) tends \({\rm infinity}\), \(x^2\) all the more so tends to \({\rm infinity}\).

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

So it is going to start from 0, and go into infinity. So your answer is?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what does "all real numbers" mean?

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

All real numbers are fractions, square roots, integers, ((and basically all numerical quantities which are not undefined and that don't contain \(i\) (imaginary number that you might not have studied)))

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok thank you

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i have another question

OpenStudy (anonymous):

nvm

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so the answer is \[x \ge 0\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the range is not the x's it is the y's
