@HelloKitty17

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Hey can you help me please

OpenStudy (jack1):

yep, was jus lookin a t the equation, do u know how to solve?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No :|

OpenStudy (jack1):

ok, consider the equals sing like a seesaw, so if u do something to the numbers on one side of it, u have to do the same thing to the numbers on the other side so lets solve together and see how many solutions, yeah?

OpenStudy (jack1):

*equals sign... damn my clumsy fingers, sorry :(

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh yeah lol

OpenStudy (jack1):

4(2x +3) = 2(3x -4) this is ur equation, right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes

OpenStudy (jack1):

cool, so first, expand out the brackets \(\large 4(2x +3) = 2(3x -4)\) \(\large 4 \times 2x + 4 \times 3 = 2 \times 3x - 2 \times 4\) \(\large 8x + 12 = 6x - 8\) ... right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Right

OpenStudy (jack1):

cool, so now combine like terms \(\large 8x + 12 = 6x - 8\) so subtract 6x from both sides of the equation \(\large 8x + 12 -6x = 6x - 8 -6x\) \(\large 2x + 12 = - 8\) k now u: subtract 12 from both sides of the equation please

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Um subtract 12 from what side :/

OpenStudy (jack1):

from both sides of the equals sign eg 2x + 12 = -8 2x + 12 -12 = -8 -12

OpenStudy (anonymous):

-20

OpenStudy (anonymous):

-8

OpenStudy (jack1):

yep, exactly: 2x = -20 so x = ...?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

-20

OpenStudy (jack1):

...no 2x = -20 so x = -20/2 = -10... yeah?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ohh that's a division sign didn't see it sorry lol

OpenStudy (anonymous):

right

OpenStudy (jack1):

all good ;) so yeah, it has a solution, we solved it, and there's no plus or minus there so it's just the 1 solution...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay is it fine if you help me with more?

OpenStudy (jack1):

sure, just shut down this thread tho and open a new one as the equations tend to slow things down a bit plz ;)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Do we still work in this one?

OpenStudy (jack1):

no, just hit the close question button, and open a new one and tag me in it and i'll be there quick as (:

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay!!
