A candle manufacturer sells cylindrical candles in sets of three. Each candle in the set is a different size. The smallest candle has a radius of 0.5 inches and a height of 3 inches. The other two candles are scaled versions of the smallest, with scale factors of 2 and 3. How much wax is needed to create one set of candles?

Smallest candle volume is: pi*(1/2)^2 * 3 cubic inches Smallest candle volume is: (3/4)pi cubic inches The scale factors go to both radius and height so that the one with a scale factor of 2 will have a volume 8 times the original and the one with a scale factor of 3 will have a volume 27 times the original 27 + 8 + 1 = 36 36 * (3/4)pi cubic inches = 27 pi cubic inches .
