So I'm learning about motion problems that deal with distance, rate, and time. The formulas that are usually used are d=rt , r =d/t , or t=d/r. I need help with forming an equation for this problem: A boy leaves on a bicycle trip at the rate of 8 mph. One hour later the father, realizing that his son forgot his camping gear, sets out by car. How fast must the father drive to overtake the boy in 15 minutes?
Hint : By the time the father meets his son, both would have travelled the same distance.
look you need to find the car's vilocity. lets write it as v you know that time in whihc father has to overtake the boy is 15 min so 15*v equals to the distance that boy (with vilocity 8mph) will drive in 1hour+15 min the distance that the boy will drive before his father overtake him is equal to (1h+1/4h)*8mph 1/4h is 15 min so here is our equation 1h*v=(1h+1/4h)*8mph
just solve this one. do you need help with solving or you will do this task on your own?
must be a typo i guess, it should be : 1/4h*v=(1h+1/4h)*8mph
oops sorry. you are right @ganeshie8 . thanks for mentioning the mistake!
I will be able to solve it myself, thank you so much for your input!
nope :)
