A and D seem like good answers.. I think it's A though because only until the recent past have we been able to see down to the atom itself. All previous information about atoms have been due to observations of atomic behavior, which leads us to make conclusions about the atom itself. But D also makes sense so I'm not 100% sure.

It's not scientific to say "a guess" though because that term is misleading. It's not just a guess, they are scientific observations that lead to conclusions, which are supported by noticeable behaviors.
