so you know the characteristics of two perpendicular lines?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Completely confused..:( @BAdhi

OpenStudy (badhi):

if there are two lines represented as below, \(y = m_1 x + c_1\) \(y= m_2 x + c_2 \) if the two lines are parallel -> \( m_1 = m_2\) if the two lines are perpendicular -> \(m_1m_2 = -1\)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so the first one? @BAdhi

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

you have to find the slopes and compare them. If they are negative reciprocals of each other, then they are perpendicular. For instance, if the slope of one is 2/3 and the slope of the other one is -3/2, then they are perpendicular. So we need to find the slopes and the best way to do that is to put them in y = mx + b form where m is your slope. -8/3x + 9 = y....rearrange y = -8/3x + 9 so the slope here is -8/3 8y = 3x - 32 -- divide everything by 8 y = 3/8x - 4 so yes....these have negative reciprocal slopes and that makes them perpendicular. It is the first one :)

@texaschic101 , thanks, you were right!:)

YW :)
