@phi

OpenStudy (pinklion23):

Points C and D lie on graph of the equation y = 1.3x. What are the y-coordinates for each point? Point C: (3, ) Point D: (−6, )

OpenStudy (phi):

Do you know how to do this ?

OpenStudy (pinklion23):

um........ ........................... ....................no :3 sorry i really am sorry :(

OpenStudy (pinklion23):

my teacher is not online today so i can not ask her to help me

OpenStudy (phi):

y = 1.3x means y is 1.3 times x if x were a number, you would do 1.3 times that number

OpenStudy (pinklion23):

oh i understand so 3*1.3 and -6*1.3?

OpenStudy (phi):

yes.

OpenStudy (pinklion23):

sweet i did it so y1=3.9 and y2= -7.8

OpenStudy (phi):

yes. and if you plot (3,3.9) and (-6,-7.8) you can form the line (by connecting the dots)

OpenStudy (pinklion23):

right so it is a positive slope or wait negative? i know it is not part of the question but witch one is it?

OpenStudy (phi):

positive slope means the line goes up as you move to the right. if you are at (-6,-7.8) and move to the right and end up at x=3, the y is 3.9 which is above -7.8 the line is going up as we move to the right so it has positive slope

OpenStudy (pinklion23):

right can you help me another i will post new question :)

OpenStudy (phi):

if we want to find the slope we would find change in y 3.9 - -7.8 = 11.7 and divide by change in x 3 - -6 = 9 11.7/9 = 1.3 or 13/10

OpenStudy (pinklion23):

right right i understand now thank you so much you should be a math teacher :)
