Find the sum. 12x^2 + 9x^2 =

Nnesha (nnesha):

when the variables and exponents are same of two terms then you can add their coefficients

Nnesha (nnesha):

here is an example 3y+7y +4y are like terms same variables and same degree so just add their coefficients (3+4+7)y = 14y

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and the exponents? It would be 4 then?

Nnesha (nnesha):

no exponents would stay de same just add coefficients

OpenStudy (anonymous):

21x^2?

OpenStudy (tyteen4a03):

@Haksorin As I said in another post: The variable (and its exponents) stays the same during addition.

Nnesha (nnesha):

when we `mulitply` same bases then we should add their exponents and multiply the coefficients

Nnesha (nnesha):

ye that's correct :=)) o^_^o
