OpenStudy (diana.xl):

So is this correct like this? @Directrix

Directrix (directrix):

Yes. Are you supposed to solve the two equations?

OpenStudy (diana.xl):

yea

OpenStudy (diana.xl):

Solve the system using the elimination method. Show all the steps leading to your answer.

OpenStudy (diana.xl):

im a bit confused about this one tho.

Directrix (directrix):

I would multiply the second equation by 100 to eliminate the decimals.

Directrix (directrix):

Then, you would have: x + y = 27 25x + 10y = 450 ---------------

Directrix (directrix):

Can you solve that? I would then multiply the first equation by -10 to eliminate the y variable.

Directrix (directrix):

x + y = 27 .25x + .10y = 4.50 ---------------------- x + y = 27 25x + 10 y = 450 ----------------- -10x -10y = -270 25x + 10y = 450 -------------------- 15x + 0y = 180 15x = 180 --------------------- x = 12 x + y = 27 12 + y = 27 y = 15 12 quarters and 15 dimes

Directrix (directrix):

Your work is not correct. You have to multiply through by -10 to eliminate the y. If you add the two ys you have you will get 20y and they will not add out.

OpenStudy (diana.xl):

oh ok

OpenStudy (diana.xl):

Thank u.

Directrix (directrix):

You are welcome. I'm attaching a graphic showing where yours went wrong if you can read my sloppy writing.
