QUESTION... MEDAL!!!!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What is your question?

OpenStudy (calculusxy):

\[\frac{ (-51)^2 }{ 17^3 }\]

OpenStudy (michele_laino):

hint: \(-51=-3 \cdot 17\)

OpenStudy (calculusxy):

I thought of \[-3^{-1} \rightarrow \frac{ 1 }{ -3^1 }\] I don't think that's correct

OpenStudy (michele_laino):

we have these steps: \[\frac{{{{\left( { - 3 \cdot 17} \right)}^2}}}{{{{17}^3}}} = \frac{{9 \cdot {{17}^2}}}{{{{17}^3}}} = ...?\]

OpenStudy (calculusxy):

\[\frac{ 9 }{ 17^{1} }\]

OpenStudy (michele_laino):

correct!

OpenStudy (calculusxy):

So what do i have to make sure in these types of questions?

OpenStudy (michele_laino):

I think you have to make sure about the factorization of whole number, the properties of operation with powers with same basis, and about the powers of negative numbers

OpenStudy (calculusxy):

okay thank you!

OpenStudy (michele_laino):

:)
