I’ll try to help you. “me, te, se, nos, os, le, les,” are called reflexive pronouns. This part of speech indicates the action of the verb is done for oneself, i.e., this action ‘reflects’ on the subject. In some cases, the action expressed is shared or reciprocal with another subject. They can appear before or after the verb. You can use them before the verb with almost every verb and with the negative imperative. Examples: Me voy a casa de Juan. (Presente de indicativo). Ellas se vistieron bien. (pretérito indefinido) ¡No te sientes ahí! (imperativo negativo) When they are after, form an only word with the verb, which is called “reflexive verb”. This verb can be in the indicative gerund, infinitive, or affirmative imperative. Examples: Me caí parándome en la zanja. (gerundio) Voy a lavarme el cabello. (infinitivo) ¡Péinate antes de salir! (imperativo afirmativo) Every reflexive pronoun corresponds to each personal pronoun: Yo me (myself) Tú te (yourself) Él/ella/usted/ se (himself / herself / yourself / yourselves) Nosotros nos (ourselves) Ellos/ellas/ustedes se (themselves / yourselves) Vosotros os (yourselves) “le, les” (singular and plural respectively) work as indirect objects. In this case, the subject and the indirect object are different. You have to write an “a” before the indirect object: (Whatever personal pronoun different of indirect object) le (verb) a él/ella/usted. (Whatever personal pronoun different of indirect object) les (verb) a ellos/ellas/ustedes. Notice that you don’t use “le or les” with yo, tú, nosotros or vosotros, just with the third person in singular and plural as indirect object. Now, this is the conjugation of the verb “dar” with the personal pronouns in simple past tense: Yo di Tú diste Él/ella/usted dio Nosotros dimos Él/ella/ustedes dieron Vosotros disteis I can give you some examples with the words you’ve chosen: Yo le di chocolates a él por su cumpleaños. Tú no me diste flores ayer. Ellos nos dieron ricas gomitas. (deliciuos jellybeans) Carlos y Guillermo les dieron perlas a sus esposas por su aniversario de bodas. Notice the structure: Subject + (negative if it exists) + reflexive pronoun + verb + direct object + (indirect object if it exists) + the rest… With le, les you can say: A mamá le dieron flores. A los niños les dieron dinero para que compraran helados. These are impersonal sentences because we don’t know the subject: Mom has received flowers but we don´t know who gave them to her. The kids have received money, but we don’t know who gave it to them. In this case, you have to put an “a” before the indirect pronoun as before it was mentioned. You can use the verb “dar” as a reflexive one, just when the action can reflect on the subject: Yo me di un baño. (I gave myself a bath = I took a bath). Tú te diste la oportunidad. (You gave yourself the opportunity.)
