why is sand in water a heterogeneous mixture

OpenStudy (anonymous):

sand doesn't dissolve uniformly in water the same way that salt would. We would call a mixture like one with dissolved salt a homogeneous mixture.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Sand does not dissolve uniformly in water. Therefor, it's heterogeneous.
