OpenStudy (mynameisnemo):

Hello :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hey :)

OpenStudy (mynameisnemo):

correct

OpenStudy (mynameisnemo):

:) Good job

OpenStudy (phi):

five added --> 5+ three times a number --> 3x (x is the number) is --> = so the first part is 5+3x = or 3x+5= (order can be changed when adding)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so that means A

OpenStudy (mynameisnemo):

yes

OpenStudy (phi):

eight less --> -8 + (this might be tricky) than 5 times the number --> 5x so the right hand side is -8+5x or 5x+ -8 or 5x-8

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok great thanks @phi and @MyNameIsNemo

OpenStudy (phi):

sometimes I use real numbers to try to understand the English. For example: I know "one less than two" is 1 so it must be 2-1 is what one less than two means

OpenStudy (phi):

or two more than ten I know that is 12 2 more than 10 must mean 2+10 because that is how you get 12

OpenStudy (phi):

and if they say two more than a number I know based on how two more than ten works i.e. 2+10 I would do 2+ some number then call the number "x", so it is 2+x
