convert to a mixed number

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Convert what exactly to a mixed number?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[3\frac {a }{b }\]

OpenStudy (xmistermayhem):

You multiple the denominator (b) by the 3, then add a to it.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I knew that but I don't really get it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is it suposed to be \[\frac{ 3ba }{ b }\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I don't get it what am I supossed to do with the (a)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

LEAVE THE FLIPPING CHAT ALONE!!!!!!!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

PLS HELP ME :(

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how do you do this woah what grade are you in xD

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What is the lesson called?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

7th grade

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh.. what's the fraction? Are there no numbers in the fraction...?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

there are no numbers

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Are you SURE? That's too complex for 7th grade. I don't even think you can do this without numbers haha.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[3\frac{ a }{ b }\] <---that is the fraction

OpenStudy (anonymous):

dude there's no numbers.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ik

OpenStudy (anonymous):

3 times b is 3b. I mean this is realllyyyyy complex for someone so young.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I'm in 11th grade and I don't remember learning this? I know how to convert fractions and what now, but not without numbers.

OpenStudy (xmistermayhem):

Listen, Shadow.

OpenStudy (youngstudier):

@campbell_st

OpenStudy (xmistermayhem):

You take the "3" and multiply that by "b" ... Then you add "a" to "3 times b" .. Then all that over "b".

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what does it look like I am a visual learner

Directrix (directrix):

Looking back at the original question: >>convert to a mixed number 3 a/b is already a mixed number. So, there is nothing to do, is there? @Shadowknight6263

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

isn't that the process of changing from a mixed number to an improper fraction

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes I am trying to convert it to a improper fraction

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

so you have the initial question incorrectly stated, but that's ok. Just follow the processes described.
