What would be the first thing you would do if you are burned by a chemical while performing a lab experiment?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

take sodium pellet and apply on the burnt area

Really it depends on what type of chemical it is--if it is oxy reactive... putting water on it would be a terrible idea. Generally, if it is something that is gonna burn you, you should be wearing the proper equipment to make sure this doesnt happen. Let's say you get some low mole H2SO4 (sulfuric acid) you cant really do anything about it, you can put it under water and soap if you want--but it wont really do anything; it's gonna burn and give you a red spot for a few days...but u'll be fine no matter

hope it helps

Water does the thing ;)
