Describe with examples of your own when you would use long division and synthetic division and how to check polynomial division.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@thenikko

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You use synthetic division if your divisor is ax+b

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So 4x+3 would be synthetic division, but x^2+3x+2 would be long division

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Is that because it has exponents?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Because it has an exponent greater than one ^^

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What about the polynomial division?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@thenikko

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Those are both forms of polynomial divison

OpenStudy (anonymous):

But how would you check it using polynomial division

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You would take your answer and multiply it with your divisor.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

And it should give you the original equation you were dividing
