What did the discovery of a deep rift valley along the crest of the Mid-Atlantic Ridge lead scientists to conclude? A. that seafloor spreading caused the movement of tectonic plates B. that the seafloor is spreading as a result of tectonic plate movement C. that the pressure of wave action caused tectonic plate movement D. that the buildup of eroded material caused tectonic plate movement

OpenStudy (jonaho):

A I Believe

OpenStudy (anonymous):

can you help with others? @Jonaho

OpenStudy (jonaho):

@Monkey4224 I can try

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Which describes the evidence scientists used to prove their seafloor-spreading hypothesis? A. paleomagnetism and mineral analysis B. sonar data and mineral analysis C. sonar data and rock dating techniques D. paleomagnetism and rock-dating techniques I think it's either A or D.

OpenStudy (jonaho):

hmmm I would have to say d

What is the difference between oceanic crust and continental crust? A. Oceanic crust is composed of primarily granite and silicates, while continental crust is most commonly made of feldspar. B. Oceanic crust contains a large amount of nickel, while continental crust is rich in iron. C. Oceanic crust contains a large amount of aluminum, while continental crust is rich in magnesium and iron. D. Oceanic crust is composed of primarily basalt and gabbro, while continental crust is largely granite made of silicates.

OpenStudy (jonaho):

D

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Which describes a geographic feature formed at a convergent boundary? A. continents break up B. a fault forms C. new crust between mid-ocean ridges D. continental mountain ranges I think it's d.

OpenStudy (jonaho):

Yep Correct

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Which occurred first in scientific history? A. Scientists began to think that the continents were parts of larger plates, based on information about the mid-ocean ridges and earthquakes. B. Seuss suggested the idea that the earth's continents were originally two larger continents. C. Paleomagnetism in ocean rocks provided proof for seafloor spreading, convincing many scientists of the validity of the theory of plate tectonics. D. Wegener suggested the idea of continental drift and the existence of an original super continent, Pangaea.

OpenStudy (jonaho):

Not sure

OpenStudy (jonaho):

Maybe B or D Sorry if im wrong

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Scientific knowledge of the earth has progressed through the contributions of many. Which was second in scientific history? A. Wegener's continental drift B. Seuss's two continents C. Marie Tharpe's sonography data D. proof of seafloor spreading

OpenStudy (jonaho):

A Or B Maybe

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Which was the third theory explaining the movement of continents? A. two giant continents: Gondwanaland and Laurasia B. one giant continent: Pangaea C. continents parts of larger plates D. paleomagnetism proves seafloor spreading

OpenStudy (jonaho):

Not sure maybe c or d

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Which was the fourth theory explaining the movement of continents? A. one giant continent: Pangaea B. paleomagnetism proves seafloor spreading C. two giant continents: Gondwanaland and Laurasia D. continents parts of larger plates

OpenStudy (jonaho):

B Or D ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Scientists think there are two major processes that play a role in moving the earth's plates. What are they? A. mantle convection caused by radioactive decay and gravity acting on edges of plates B. radioactive decay of crust and solar energy acting on edges of plates C. plasticity of mantle and nuclear energy acting on edges of plates D. solar energy absorption in lithosphere and mechanical energy acting on edges of plates

OpenStudy (jonaho):

Plates at our planet's surface move because of the intense heat in the Earth's core that causes molten rock in the mantle layer to move. It moves in a pattern called a convection cell that forms when warm material rises, cools, and eventually sink down So maybe A

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Plate tectonics is a more complete theory than continental drift. What are geographical features or events that can be explained by plate tectonics but not by continental drift? Choose all answers that are correct. A. faults B. rock formations C. volcanoes D. fossil distribution

OpenStudy (jonaho):

A And C are correct I believe

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Where can geological features formed by convergent plates be found? Choose all answers that are correct. A. The Peru-Chile Trench near the Andes Mountains B. Mid-Atlantic Ridge C. The Tonga Islands D. San Andreas Fault

OpenStudy (jonaho):

You can have one of two things depending on the TYPE of convergent boundary. If you have two continental plates colliding, then mountains will form, for example the Himalayas. If you have a collision of an oceanic plate and continental plate or lighter oceanic plate, the heavier and most dense of the two, which is the oceanic plate, will subduct under the continental plate. The type of feature seen here is deep ocean trench. Volcanos and earthquakes are common with converging plates. So think about it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

a and b?

OpenStudy (jonaho):

Sounds about right
