OpenStudy (ellaella02):

Can someone help me with a few slope questions?

OpenStudy (jennithemeani):

Sure, I can check them out and see if I can

OpenStudy (ellaella02):

Okay thank you @jennithemeani

OpenStudy (jennithemeani):

Oh okay yeah haha I got this

OpenStudy (jennithemeani):

First thing you have to know is the point slope form formula, do you know it?

OpenStudy (ellaella02):

Probably not

OpenStudy (jennithemeani):

No worries, I didn't know it until algebra 2 haha Well it is \[y-y1= m(x-x1)\] Do you know what y1, x1 or m is?

OpenStudy (ellaella02):

I know that y1 is 2? or is it -6? I'm pretty sure that m = slope

OpenStudy (jennithemeani):

y1 is -6 and x1 is 2 imagine (x,y) then transfer it to (2,-6) So you know which is which yep, m is slope now just put everything into place

OpenStudy (jennithemeani):

\[y+6=-3/4 (x-2)\]

OpenStudy (ellaella02):

Oh wow i was way off

OpenStudy (jennithemeani):

That is the equation in slope intercept form, since it's not asking you to solve your done :)

OpenStudy (jennithemeani):

Haha, no worries just keep practicing. What were you doing wrong before?

OpenStudy (ellaella02):

I thought it was y+(-6)

OpenStudy (ellaella02):

Could you help me with a few more?

OpenStudy (jennithemeani):

no it is y- (-6)= m(x-2) But since two negatives make a positive you make it y+6=m(x-2)

OpenStudy (ellaella02):

I totally forgot about that. I haven't done integers sine like 6th grade.

OpenStudy (jennithemeani):

Lucky! They can get kinda annoying and are SUPER easy to miss and just one wrong sign screw up the whole equation

OpenStudy (ellaella02):

since**

OpenStudy (jennithemeani):

Any more questions or is that it?

OpenStudy (ellaella02):

I have four more... Could you help me?

OpenStudy (jennithemeani):

Yes :)

OpenStudy (ellaella02):

What is the point-slope form of the equation of a line that passes through the point (1, 4) and has a slope of −3?

OpenStudy (sweetburger):

just plug in the given values into point slope form y-y1= m(x-x1)

OpenStudy (jennithemeani):

y-y1=m(x-x1) y-4=-3 (x-1) Yep just plug them in :)

OpenStudy (ellaella02):

That's it?

OpenStudy (jennithemeani):

Yep, you can try them yourselves and I can check them if you want :)

OpenStudy (ellaella02):

thank you (: I guess it' seems harder than it is

OpenStudy (ellaella02):

Okay thank you (:

OpenStudy (ellaella02):

A yearbook printer charges based on the number of pages printed. Here is a table that shows the cost of some recent yearbooks: https://static.k12.com/calms_media/media/241500_242000/241736/1/ba4f4a8c374db4825eb2e52a5d38ac0ace85d489/07_08_LQ_4.gif Which equation gives the cost, y, in terms of the number of pages, x? A. y = 0.012x + 1.25 B. y = 0.012x + 0.65 C. y = 83.3x + 0.65 D. y = 0.012x + 49.985

OpenStudy (ellaella02):

For this one I got C

OpenStudy (ellaella02):

@jennithemeani

OpenStudy (jennithemeani):

First one is perfect :)

OpenStudy (ellaella02):

YAAAAAAASSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS Thank you!!

OpenStudy (ellaella02):

And I have a fifth one but I didn't post it because I need a little help with it.

OpenStudy (ellaella02):

@jennithemeani

OpenStudy (jennithemeani):

Give me a sec for the last one

OpenStudy (ellaella02):

Okay (: Sorry

OpenStudy (jennithemeani):

Alright, im not 100% sure for that one but I think it's c. That would be my best guess

OpenStudy (ellaella02):

Sweet!! Thank you so so much!! Could you help me with the last one? Its got some sort of graphing thing that I don't quite get.

OpenStudy (jennithemeani):

Sure

OpenStudy (jennithemeani):

The slope is rise over run making the slope -3/2 because you go down 3 then to the right 2

OpenStudy (jennithemeani):

Now for the variables choose the opposite so if y-4=-3/2(x+2) then y=4 and x=-2 Check to see if they are on the graph and if they are you got it

OpenStudy (ellaella02):

They are. Thank you so so much for helping me with this!!

OpenStudy (ellaella02):

I only got a 60% though

OpenStudy (jennithemeani):

What a shame :( which ones were wrong?

OpenStudy (ellaella02):

Number 3 was c and d and number 4 was b
