OpenStudy (slickster256):

will someone help me understand this

OpenStudy (slickster256):

For this activity, you will need two coins. First, you will determine the theoretical probability of events. Then, you will flip the coins 100 times and determine the experimental probability of the events. Flip two coins 100 times, and record the results of each coin toss in a table like the one below: Result Frequency Two heads Two tails One head, one tail

OpenStudy (slickster256):

frequency is supposed to be more spaced out btw

OpenStudy (jack1):

understand that so first - if heads and tails are equally likely... what is the THEORETICAL probability of: 2x Heads - ??? 2x Tails - ??? 1x Heads and 1x Tails - ???

OpenStudy (slickster256):

im not to sure

OpenStudy (jack1):

ok... well first: if it was only 1 coin, what is the probability of Heads? Tails?

OpenStudy (slickster256):

heads 2*1 tails 2*1

OpenStudy (slickster256):

or would it be 50 50 because they have the a equally likely

OpenStudy (jack1):

50 / 50 each outcome is equally likely and there are only 2 possible outcomes so THEORETICAL probability = 1/2 heads = 50% 1/2 tails = 50%

OpenStudy (jack1):

u cool with that? like understand and locked, so move on?

OpenStudy (slickster256):

if theres two coins wouldnt that be FIRST COIN heads: 25 Tails:25 SECOND COIN heads:25 Tails: 25

OpenStudy (jack1):

yep, if there are 2 coins, that's totally correct so 2 coins: 4 possible outcomes head head head tail tail head tail tail

OpenStudy (jack1):

so 4 possible outcomes each outcome equally likely therefore each outcome = 1 chance in 4 head head = 1/4 = 25% head tail = 1/4 = 25% tail head = 1/4 = 25% tail tail = 1/4 = 25%

OpenStudy (slickster256):

so i would fill my chart out like this

OpenStudy (slickster256):

Result Frequency Two heads 25% Two tails 25% One head, one tail 50%

OpenStudy (jack1):

sure... but this answer is only for the THEORETICAL probability now u have to work out the EXPERIMENTAL probability by seriously flipping 2 coins, 100 times, and fill in the table again

OpenStudy (slickster256):

couldn't i flip them both ten times and add a zero to each of those numbers and it be same to 100

OpenStudy (jack1):

nah, more likely to be skewed results if u do that, sáll

OpenStudy (slickster256):

ok

OpenStudy (slickster256):

well now im gonna flip two coins 100 times

OpenStudy (jack1):

good luck, cya

OpenStudy (slickster256):

c ya
