I NEED HELP PLEASE.... 9. (03.05 LC) The functions f(x) and g(x) are described below: f(x) = 32x + 8 g(x) = 32x −9 The graph of g(x) is obtained by shifting down the graph of f(x) by units. (5 points) Score: 0 of 5

CAN ANYONE HELP

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Whats the question?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ABOVE

OpenStudy (phi):

one way to do this, is pick x=0 and figure out f(0) and g(0) can you do that ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

IDK I REALLY AM STUMPED ON THESE PROBLEMS

OpenStudy (phi):

replace x with zero in f(x) = 32x + 8 and remember 32x means 32 * x (multiply) can you do that ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

YEAH IS THAT ALL U HAVE TO DO

OpenStudy (phi):

what do you get ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ONE SEC

OpenStudy (anonymous):

0 ON FX AND 0 ON GX

OpenStudy (phi):

f(x) = 32x + 8 put in 0 for x what do you get ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

SO BY SHIFTING THE GRAPH DOWN ZERO

OpenStudy (anonymous):

IS THE ANSWER

OpenStudy (phi):

f(x) = 32x + 8 put in 0 for x what do you get ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

8

OpenStudy (anonymous):

AND -9 FOR GX

OpenStudy (phi):

and what do you get for g(x) when x is 0 ? yes -9 now f(0) is at 8 and g(0) is at -9 how far down do you have to go to get from +8 down to -9 ? any idea ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

17

OpenStudy (phi):

yes. you shift down by 17 that is the answer

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OHH I SEE HOW I GOT IT WRONG THEN I PUT -17 BUT IT ALREADY SAYS DOWN SHIFT SO IT IS JUST 17

OpenStudy (anonymous):

THX

OpenStudy (phi):

yes. if they just said, "how much was it shifted?" we would say -17 but if they say "how much was it shifted down?" then we say 17 that is a bit tricky. more like an English test than a math test.

LOL
