OpenStudy (ellaella02):

Can someone help me with a few slope questions?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ello ella :D haha whats up?

OpenStudy (ellaella02):

Not much, you?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

same jus doing some work, you need some help?

OpenStudy (ellaella02):

Yeah, I never understood slope and things like that..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well ill help you answer them :D we can work them out together :)

OpenStudy (ellaella02):

Which is an equation in point-slope form for the given point and slope? Point: (1, –7); Slope: -2/3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay so do you know the point-slope equation?

OpenStudy (ellaella02):

Probably not...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

its alright :) its y-y1=m(x-x1) so m=slope x1 and y1 is our point with me so far?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ill be right back :)

OpenStudy (ellaella02):

Yeah, I think so

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay so we simply plug in our point and our slope... try it :) tell me what you get

OpenStudy (ellaella02):

Okay -7-1=m(-2-3)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

not quite but nice try... so if m (slope) is -2/3: y-y1=-2/3(x-x1) then we plug in our point: y-(-7)=-2/3(x-1) change: y+7=-2/3(x-1) understand?

OpenStudy (ellaella02):

I'm going to say yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay ill take your word for it haha so y+7=-2/3(x-1) is our answer

OpenStudy (ellaella02):

Awesome! Thank you (:

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no problem :P

OpenStudy (ellaella02):

I have a few more? Can you help?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yea ill do my best :D

OpenStudy (ellaella02):

What is the point-slope form of the equation of a line that passes through the point (6, −8) and has a slope of −2?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

this is going to be the same thing we just did, think you could try on your own?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ill be right here if you need help :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@EllaElla02

OpenStudy (ellaella02):

Okay y+(-8)=-2(x-1)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

close :D you made some mistakes but you get the idea ::D haha it is jus y+8=-2(x-6)

OpenStudy (ellaella02):

Okay, thank you (: I have three more can you help?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes!! =(^.^)=

OpenStudy (ellaella02):

Which equations are equations for the line shown? https://static.k12.com/calms_media/media/1511000_1511500/1511271/1/4970b680978becf8435036eaf03e351e7db38994/MS_IMC-140804-180201.jpg Choose all answers that are correct.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay so do you know how to find slope from two point?

OpenStudy (ellaella02):

Probably not....

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well its y2-y1/x2-x1 so what are the coordinates of our two points on the graph?

OpenStudy (ellaella02):

Um -3,1 and 3,4

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes so we can now label our pairs: (x1,y1) (x2,y2) (-3,1) (3,4)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so we plug them into our equation :D yay..... <.< haha

OpenStudy (ellaella02):

so 4+1/3+(-3)

OpenStudy (ellaella02):

Sorry I'm a really slow typer

OpenStudy (anonymous):

close 4-1/3+3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

its alright im not that great either

OpenStudy (ellaella02):

So the answers would be none of them because none of them are that

OpenStudy (ellaella02):

If that makes any sense

OpenStudy (anonymous):

not quite... you see we get 3/6 which could be reduced by 3 so we get 1/2 like so: |dw:1446164188529:dw|
