For all those who say that it is against coc to give explanation+answer.............

OpenStudy (alexandervonhumboldt2):

there is nowhere written in the coc that it is illegal to give explanation+answer. It only says : `Don’t post only answers - guide the asker to a solution. `. `Don't provide someone with just the answer - explain the process, and help guide them through understanding the problem. ` These 2 quotes says that it is illegal to give answers, but they don't say that it is illegal to give explanation+answer. So it is okay to give explanations, and explanation+answer, but it is illegal to give only answer.

@haleyelizabeth2017 @ganeshie8 @TheSmartOne @Abhisar @mynameisnemo

OpenStudy (alexandervonhumboldt2):

@pooja195 this does belongs to you because i know you were reporting me.

OpenStudy (alexandervonhumboldt2):

the ARE words `only` and `just`

pooja195 (pooja195):

It says guide hun . If you guide there shouldn't be "giving answers"

OpenStudy (alexandervonhumboldt2):

no,

pooja195 (pooja195):

I dont feel the need to argue this have a great night bye.

OpenStudy (alexandervonhumboldt2):

laws are not made on implicit ideas. If coc contains rules they should be directly stated. Then it should say : Don't provide explanation with answer as well.

OpenStudy (alexandervonhumboldt2):

There is nowhere directly stated in COC that it is against the rules to give expl+answer

OpenStudy (alexandervonhumboldt2):

Laws should be directly and clearly stated.

eclipsedstar (eclipsedstar):

...Eric went over this so many times with the ambis, we know the rules, Alex.

OpenStudy (alexandervonhumboldt2):

ok, where is it written that it is illegal to give expl+answer.

eclipsedstar (eclipsedstar):

Users can just scroll down, they won't see the need to see the explanation at all and take the answer in the end. That is the same as giving it out.

OpenStudy (alexandervonhumboldt2):

you dont listen to me @EclipsedStar

OpenStudy (alexandervonhumboldt2):

show me a rule where it is illegal to give explanation with answer.

OpenStudy (alexandervonhumboldt2):

if there is no such rule, then it is legal.

OpenStudy (alexandervonhumboldt2):

@Preetha

eclipsedstar (eclipsedstar):

The rules don't make explicit detail to every single thing, I'm pretty sure you know that. Many moderators have gone over this already. Giving an explanation and asking for the asker's participation is the way the site was made in the first place. Giving out the answer along with the explanation still counts as not abiding the rules.

eclipsedstar (eclipsedstar):

Answers with an explanation? It still has the direct answer. The user can just take it.

OpenStudy (alexandervonhumboldt2):

where is it written? some mods think that it is ok to give expl+answer, cause they gave me medals anddidn't suspended me

eclipsedstar (eclipsedstar):

Majority of mods have. It isn't "written", it was typed and debated about. There are several posts about them, use Jay's tab thing to find those posts if you have the luxury of time :P

OpenStudy (alexandervonhumboldt2):

if it is a rule it needs to be written in coc.

OpenStudy (alexandervonhumboldt2):

if it is a voting, then it is not applied as rule

eclipsedstar (eclipsedstar):

I'm just trusting the head of the ambassador program. Whatever he says, the minions follow. Since that is so, we will uphold what is right until further notice. Side note, the CoC is not very explicit. The TaC is more reliable.

Nnesha (nnesha):

http://openstudy.com/study#/updates/5632c25ce4b053bd1c1d9fb4 look at this post do you think the person who asked question is paying attention ? NO. when we give explanation +answer MOST of the user don't even look at the explanation.

Nnesha (nnesha):

OS is designed to guide the student not just to post explanation with an answer. it's like *here is my homework do it plz* this is not help

Nnesha (nnesha):

help >enabling

Nnesha (nnesha):

not all users but 80%

eclipsedstar (eclipsedstar):

I agree, nice points Nnesha ^_^

OpenStudy (alexandervonhumboldt2):

it is the work of asker to learn or just do tests.

Nnesha (nnesha):

I guess a good tutor is smart enough to know how to teach. and what's good for students.

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

The Code of Conduct admits to having "Core Principles" and a few "specific guidelines". This means, if you do not find the specific guideline you seek, you revert to the core principles. You do NOT simply do whatever you like because it isn't stated explicitly. The first two Core Principles can be difficult to reconcile. Failure to just give an answer can be perceived as "mean". For me, as a general rule, I don't want to demonstrate anything unless the OP talks to me and demonstrates an ability to communicate and a desire to learn. On the other hand, building trust and friendship might take some other effort that can be judged on the fly. Sometimes, I will say, "Okay, one for free," just to see if the OP will respond favorably by showing work on a similar problem. Sometimes this works. Each of us can develop our own personal style of what works best for the most students based on our individual and unique personalities. Differences in style do not have to signify violations of the Code of Conduct.

Nnesha (nnesha):

it's like one year old kid should learn how to walk , talk on his own ?

OpenStudy (alexandervonhumboldt2):

i agree with tkunny

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

@Nnesha OpenStudy is not a primary educator. If a student brings a problem to us, it SHOULD be after initial exposure has already taken place. Sadly, this is not always the case. When we find lost students (which seems to happen far too often in online classes), we have a self-assigned responsibility to try to help - perhaps a bit more liberally than a student who we believe has a live and helpful teacher. But still, they have to answer questions, communicate, and show SOME of their own work in order to be judged as willing to learn.

OpenStudy (mynameisnemo):

@AlexandervonHumboldt2 You're better than them :D Don't let silly remarks get you down, they're ridiculous

OpenStudy (alexandervonhumboldt2):

^

OpenStudy (mynameisnemo):

(@AlexandervonHumboldt2 some of them have the title Egghead for a reason)

imqwerty (imqwerty):

xD I don't get why so many ppl are firing shots on alex. He did nothing wrong (:

OpenStudy (alexandervonhumboldt2):

lol. head like an egg, bald and inside is vacuum lol lol jk

OpenStudy (alexandervonhumboldt2):

they are fighting shots because they are nationalists, i'm not deserved to be named a person in their eyes.

OpenStudy (mynameisnemo):

@imqwerty PREACH MY FRIEND

OpenStudy (alexandervonhumboldt2):

i will never unlock this title i dont wanna be eggheaded

imqwerty (imqwerty):

:)

OpenStudy (mynameisnemo):

according to English-Slang Definition, an egghead is one who lacks common sense and is "anti-intellectual," although this does not pertain to everyone with the title.

OpenStudy (alexandervonhumboldt2):

same

imqwerty (imqwerty):

(:

OpenStudy (alexandervonhumboldt2):

I really want to keep this title. I don't want to remove me, otherwise they will not be eggheaded

OpenStudy (alexandervonhumboldt2):

`it` i meant

TheSmartOne (thesmartone):

"Don't provide someone with just the answer - explain the process, and help guide them through understanding the problem" Lets read that sentence again, okay? I'll highlight some key words :) "Don't provide someone with \(\bf just\) the answer - \(\bf explain\) the process, and help \(\bf guide\) them through understanding the problem" It says not only to give them an answer, but also to explain how you got the answer. Pretty interesting... 'Guide' as a verb means "show or indicate the way to (someone)." It can also mean, as a verb, "direct or have an influence on the course of action of (someone or something)." Now, when you post an explanation you basically are having an influence on the course of action of someone. The influence can be: a) they learn something new b) they take the answer and run away :P

OpenStudy (alexandervonhumboldt2):

a student should decide to learn or take answers. my work is explain, his work is deciding to learn or take answers.

OpenStudy (alexandervonhumboldt2):

does robtobey need to be suspended? i don't think he doesn't know rules: http://openstudy.com/study#/updates/5633a09ee4b06ec19e24f315

Nnesha (nnesha):

@tkhunny I definitely agree with you. your last sentence is clearly means "explanation+answers" isn't good for students. Especially students from flvs ( Florida virtual school ) and connection academy. we are here to GUIDE them not to do their HW. When we post "explanation +answer" that means we are not giving them a chance to ask question. and btw sometimes it really feels like os is a primary educator when we have to help with addition/multiplication problems like ` (-8) times (-2)`

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

I can't disagree with your last statement at all. For the rest, I think we are in agreement.

eclipsedstar (eclipsedstar):

\(\color{#0cbb34}{\text{Originally Posted by}}\) @imqwerty xD I don't get why so many ppl are firing shots on alex. He did nothing wrong (: \(\color{#0cbb34}{\text{End of Quote}}\) I wasn't intentionally "firing shots" in any way, just wanted to give my input to what I believe in. XD \(\color{#0cbb34}{\text{Originally Posted by}}\) @AlexandervonHumboldt2 they are fighting shots because they are nationalists, i'm not deserved to be named a person in their eyes. \(\color{#0cbb34}{\text{End of Quote}}\) ...lol...what you're thinking is merely opinion-based haha. I don't have any political views as of now. Plus, I've lived in different countries, I don't feel "loyal" to one in particular. :P

OpenStudy (alexandervonhumboldt2):

i was not talking about you star as a nationalist

eclipsedstar (eclipsedstar):

Ok, fine with me ^_^ Well, glad this is somewhat settled.
