What is ℝ in interval notation?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ℝ stands for "all real numbers" Knowing this, what do you think the interval would be? Hint: It's not a finite interval

OpenStudy (hhopke):

(-oo, oo) ?

OpenStudy (hhopke):

\[(-\infty,\infty)\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yep! So if we say that \(x \in ℝ\), then that means that x is an element of all real numbers! Also note that infinity itself is not exactly a real number, however we can use it to describe the property of a set or interval to indicate that "all real numbers" would go on forever.

OpenStudy (hhopke):

Thank you!
