OpenStudy (coolguy34):

I need help with another problem @misty1212. Here is the inequality: 4x + 6 < -6

OpenStudy (misty1212):

a) subtract 6 b) divide by 4

OpenStudy (coolguy34):

so the answer is x < -12? @misty1212

OpenStudy (misty1212):

no you skipped step b

OpenStudy (misty1212):

\[4x+6<-6\\ 4x<-12\] you still have to divide by 4

OpenStudy (coolguy34):

oh yeah so it's \[x<-3\] ?

OpenStudy (misty1212):

yeah that one

OpenStudy (sushi121212):

All you have to do is get the x on one side of the inequality and the numbers on the other side. First, you subtract the 6 from the side with the x because we want the x on one side. That leaves you with: 4x < -12 There is only 4x left on the x side. We want to get rid of the 4 and have the 4 to itself, so we have to divide the 4x by 4 to get it alone: 4x < -12 __ __ = x < -3 4 4 The answer is x < -3 because the x is on one side of the equation and we simplified it as much as we can to get the answer.

OpenStudy (coolguy34):

ok thanks @misty1212 and @Sushi121212
