Julie is a math tutor in the academic center. She charges $210 for the first 7 hours of tutoring and $20 for each additional hour of tutoring. If she earned $410 tutoring 1 student, how many total hours did she spent tutoring the student? Which of these equations represents this problem?

OpenStudy (kropot72):

Let t be the number of hours of tutoring, and let $A be the amount earned. A = 210 + 20(t - 7) The brackets can be expanded and the equation can then be simplified.

Using mental math, I feel that after subtracting 210 (The base amount for 7 hours) from 400 (the total), you just have to divide 200 (the money earned for each additional hour) by 20 (the amount of money per hour charged. So take 200 and divide it by 20 to get your answer.

I mean 410 as the total... oops. :/
