Will medal~ Question in the comments

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (elyssac):

what is it that you need help with on this?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I'm not good at multiplying more than two numbers with exponents.

OpenStudy (elyssac):

You can take it two numbers at a time. Calculate the first two, then multiply the product by the third

OpenStudy (anonymous):

2^8= 256 3^-5= 0.004115226337 then I multiply the two 1.053497942272

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Everything multiplied by 0 is 1 so it'd be that

OpenStudy (elyssac):

you've got it so far

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Then exponent -2 = 0.901016235548

OpenStudy (elyssac):

Looks good to me. I would say focus on the denominator of the fraction next, since its not going to be inverted by a negative exponent

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Then the fractions/dividing would mean to subtract 3^-2 and 2^3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

-7.8 repeated multiplied by 0.901016235548 = -7.10801969323

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Exponent 4 = 2552.665000315

OpenStudy (anonymous):

2^28 = 268,435,456

OpenStudy (elyssac):

Okay wait, stop How did you get the -7.8 repeated?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

By subtracting the numbers in the fraction

OpenStudy (anonymous):

3^-2=0.1 repeated and 2^3 is 8

OpenStudy (elyssac):

yes, but they do not have the same base, so I don't think subtracting would work here.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What should I do?

OpenStudy (elyssac):

instead of subtracting the two numbers, divide them. You already calculated their values, so it shouldn't be that difficult. Also, the exponent 4 applies to the end result of the fraction ONLY, not after the fraction has been multiplied with the rest of the equation. There are parenthesis around the fraction, the exponent 4 applies to that set of parenthesis, if that makes sense

OpenStudy (anonymous):

3^-2 is over 2^3, so I divide? 0.01389 repeated

OpenStudy (elyssac):

now apply the exponent 4 to 0.01389 repeated

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Then the exponent 4 makes it 3.7*10^-08 (I'm going to start rounding the numbers )

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Then the 2^38 makes it 9.9 or 10

OpenStudy (elyssac):

Now multiply that with the first number we had from the first set of parenthesis finally, multiply the product you just got by 2^28 After that, you should have your answer

OpenStudy (elyssac):

is it 2^28 or 2^38? Be careful, that could really screw you over

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The last exponent is 2^28

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So the answer would be 10.9 or 11

OpenStudy (elyssac):

Okay. You think you got it now? A lot of the times you may feel like you have no clue what you're doing when really all you need to do is break it down number by number

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thank you so much @ElyssaC
