OpenStudy (anonymous):

you just need pratice

Hint: `The Remainder Theorem:` `When we divide a polynomial f(x) by x-c the remainder r equals f(c)` Source: https://www.mathsisfun.com/algebra/polynomials-remainder-factor.html

OpenStudy (albert0898):

@jim_thompson5910 Tried this, but no avail. Can you guide me?

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

in your case, the rule states that if you divide f(x) by x-2, and get a remainder of 9, then f(2) = 9 also, if f(x) divided by x+3 gets a remainder of 19, then f(-3) = 19 note: x+3 = x - (-3)

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

so we know f(2) = 9 and f(-3) = 19 does that help? or no?

OpenStudy (albert0898):

Sorta, can you guide me through the full process?

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

you agree that if f(2) = 9 then x = 2 and y = 9, right?

OpenStudy (albert0898):

Yea

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

if f(-3) = 19 then x = ??? and y = ???

OpenStudy (albert0898):

x = -3 @jim_thompson5910

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

how about y?
